Why enter the Uncanny Valley?
"Over at ZS Forums kradproductions went on a rant after some frustration with Moviestorm. This is a slightly more general attempt to address some of the concerns. While general frustration with tools is something that does not really come as a great surprise he posted a good question when he compared character-driven live movie productions with character-driven machinima productions." Machinima and the Avant-Garde
"It was Jean Cocteau who suggested that the cinema as a pluralistic and egalitarian medium could never come into fruition “until the materials are as cheap as pencil and paper.” The string of technological advances in digital video technology and editing software for the personal computer have steadily brought the cost of filmmaking closer to Cocteau’s utopian vision and no group has adopted these new technologies with the enthusiasm and resourcefulness as avant-garde filmmakers and video artists." "the overcast" #030 now available
Phil Rice (Overman) and his new cohost Ricky Grove take on the topic of Pro Machinima Part 1 - Game Company Employment. Who has gone pro in this way? What impact has it had on the community? And what can you do to put yourself on a path which might one day lead to a game developer’s doorstep?http://theovercast.com/overcast-030/
Thank you for listening! As always, your feedback is welcome and appreciated.

What's in a Name?
Quite a lot it seems! Some interesting discussion this week on how the machinima community understands itself, or perhaps more accurately on how individual artists describe their work. It began in the comments at Shattered Keyboard and spilled over to Riot Films and The ZS Forum. The "what is machinima?" question re-surfaces regularly and somehow I feel glad that it proves so elusive!
