OMFF Nominations 2009!
Nominations for the 2009 festival are now closed and available for viewing at the OMFF site. The next stage, until the end of February, is to choose the short-lists. Some members may not have received a copy of the short-list form due to problems with the site email program. In that case there is a version of the form on the OMFF site which you can copy into your email and return by 28 February.Even if festivals are not your cup of meat I think the Nominations are well worth a look - there are some very exceptional movies this year!

"Machinima.com, flush with cash after recently raising $3.85 million in capital, has announced the Machinima Comedy Lab, where the site is bringing on fifteen traditional TV writers, each to develop a comedy web series pilots. The series will be greenlit for up to four episodes each before they decide whether to further produce the series.Amongst the list veteran writers selected are Writers Guild of America West president Patric M. REMINDER: About one week left to submit your nominations for the OMFF. The nominations already received are outstanding. I set aside a couple of hours to check if all the links were working and ended up spending many hours watching them. They are breathtaking and a real priviledge to be hosting them at the festival! They will be available for viewing in January.

Grand Theft Auto IV
Almost seven months on the market and Grand Theft Auto IV has lost some of its initial wow factor. A 100% game save and two hundred hours squandered racing cars and shooting pigeons on rooftops has edged some of the sheen from Rockstar's stunner. But make no mistake; Niko's visit to Liberty City is still the standout action experience of the game, hell - the generation. When Rockstar comes knocking at our door with the inevitable PC version then, this is one computer port definitely not worth rolling our eyes at - especially when you consider how improved technology can enhance the Liberty City experience. Thoughts and Pictures of the Machinima Expo 2008
"I can’t tell you how pleased I am with how well the Expo turned out for us. My sincere thanks to everyone who came, both panelists and attendees. And even with some minor glitches (video hiccup, my lost microphone) veterans of Second Life events told us that this was one of the best events they’d ever attended in SL. We managed to stay on schedule and get everything done we had planned. And I was just blown away by all of the postive feedback we received on the event." SCI-FI WINNERS TEAM UP FOR MOVIESTORM COLLABORATION
Veteran computer animator James Thorpe who was overall winner of the Moviestorm sci-fi competition, and Iain Friar who came runner-up in the Clip and Short categories of the competition have decided to combine their talents and are now collaborating on a new movie. The two met up at the Cambridge film festival to watch the screening of the winning entry and shortly after the idea of working together on a project was suggested.
James, of BlackAce Productions, is best known as being part of the team that produced the award winning aviation movie "Faith, Hope, and Charity", as well as the music video for Marillion's song "Whatever is Wrong With You?" which won the Moviestorm competition.
Iain, of IceAxe Studios is a relative newcomer to computer animation, but has already published a number of short comedy movies, all created with Moviestorm, including "Cut & Shut" and "Mistaken Identity"
A number of professional actors have already signed up for the project, and a script is in the final stages of completion.
The team are remaining tight-lipped about what the movie will be about, only disclosing that the working title is "Gridlock".
James Thorpe commented "We want to publish something that's a step beyond what an individual can achieve on their own. You can expect the finished movie to combine some of the drama and visual imagery that I'm known for with Iain's comedy dialogue. We have quite a lot of irony in there too."
Iain Friar said "Most of the production will be done in Moviestorm. It's the quickest and most effective way to get from script to screen and will be ideal for this movie."
No date for release is available yet.
Friar added "As the guys at Moviestorm love to say, it'll be ready when it's ready!"
