Montreal Expo Cancelled - Becoming a Virtual Event

"Last year, organizers Ingrid and Damien enjoyed a rich, exciting, and well-attended Machinima Roadshow event at Festival Arcadia in Montreal. So when the organizer invited us back, and expressed his desire to make the machinima component a bigger and more extensive part of his show, promoting it to us as a turn-key event and possibly including prize money for top films, Ingrid and Damien enlisted the help of Ricky and Phil and created the First Annual International Machinima Expo." Rustlers and Machinima.com/uk announce competition winner

After a long and exciting campaign, Maverick Media is proud to announce the winner of it's Jonathan Coulton Machinima video competition.

The final winner was Kerrin Hardy, who manipulated a vast collection of orcs, dwarves and slimy things to create a fantastic World of Warcraft Machinima video for Coulton's sample-tastic 'Bacteria'.

His video shows an Orc's first day working at 'Barleybeak's Chicken and Beer' restaurant, and it charmingly depicts Warcraft characters suffering from advanced dysentery - surely a WoW first.

You can see the rather excellent (and very funny) video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRPpXh2ycU4

We'd love it if you could post the video on your blog/website, as we think your readers would enjoy checking it out.

The competition was run as part of the launch of Machinima.com's UK portal launch, in association with Rustler's snack foods. If you have any questions, would like more info or have any interview requests, we'd be more than happy to help you out.

Thanks!

"the overcast" #036: Ricky's Sonic SIGGRAPH Sojourn

In this most unique of episodes, Ricky takes us on a sonic journey through SIGGRAPH 2008 in L.A. If you're a fan of Ricky's "Wonderful World of Sound" series, you'll find this episode to be a treasure trove of field recording goodness. Serving as punctuation between the recordings are some short bits of experimental music, improvised and performed "live" by Phil, specifically for this episode. So kick back, don your best pair of headphones, close your eyes, and enjoy. For even more of the experience, check out the links to Ricky's Renderosity.com SIGGRAPH journal.

We're going to be trying something a little different. Right now we've been shooting for bi-weekly shows, every other Friday. In October, we're going to try augmenting that schedule by adding what we're calling "Sideshows." Basically, the idea is that we want to try to provide content Monday, Wednesday, and Friday... every week. We'll continue to do the longer, produced podcasts every other Friday, but in between those episodes you'll start seeing some other material, generally of shorter duration and more focused in nature. Interviews, spotlights, and so on. We'll kick off the overcast "sideshows" starting October 6th, 2008.

http://theovercast.com/overcast-036/

Thank you for listening! What do you think of what we're doing? We want to know.

The Edinburgh Interactive Festival

"For the last eight or so years the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival has joined the other hoards of arts based festivals over the month of August, normally playing host to an industry conference and a few videos of upcoming games. This year's fest aims to have an expanded presence and is taking a step away from the mainly industry focused nature of previous years." [link]
