Thoughts and Pictures of the Machinima Expo 2008
"I can’t tell you how pleased I am with how well the Expo turned out for us. My sincere thanks to everyone who came, both panelists and attendees. And even with some minor glitches (video hiccup, my lost microphone) veterans of Second Life events told us that this was one of the best events they’d ever attended in SL. We managed to stay on schedule and get everything done we had planned. And I was just blown away by all of the postive feedback we received on the event." SCI-FI WINNERS TEAM UP FOR MOVIESTORM COLLABORATION
Veteran computer animator James Thorpe who was overall winner of the Moviestorm sci-fi competition, and Iain Friar who came runner-up in the Clip and Short categories of the competition have decided to combine their talents and are now collaborating on a new movie. The two met up at the Cambridge film festival to watch the screening of the winning entry and shortly after the idea of working together on a project was suggested.
James, of BlackAce Productions, is best known as being part of the team that produced the award winning aviation movie "Faith, Hope, and Charity", as well as the music video for Marillion's song "Whatever is Wrong With You?" which won the Moviestorm competition.
Iain, of IceAxe Studios is a relative newcomer to computer animation, but has already published a number of short comedy movies, all created with Moviestorm, including "Cut & Shut" and "Mistaken Identity"
A number of professional actors have already signed up for the project, and a script is in the final stages of completion.
The team are remaining tight-lipped about what the movie will be about, only disclosing that the working title is "Gridlock".
James Thorpe commented "We want to publish something that's a step beyond what an individual can achieve on their own. You can expect the finished movie to combine some of the drama and visual imagery that I'm known for with Iain's comedy dialogue. We have quite a lot of irony in there too."
Iain Friar said "Most of the production will be done in Moviestorm. It's the quickest and most effective way to get from script to screen and will be ideal for this movie."
No date for release is available yet.
Friar added "As the guys at Moviestorm love to say, it'll be ready when it's ready!"

Machinima Filmfest 2008: The Nominees
"The results are in and we have a superb list of Nominees! In fact, we had so many good submissions that for this year, the Festival Selection Committee decided to give out Honorary Mentions in each category for one film that didn’t make it to the Nominations but is a superb example of machinima filmmaking. Congratulations to everybody!" [link]Pineapple Pictures Releases Promotional Film For The Expo. [link]

Montreal Expo Cancelled - Becoming a Virtual Event
"Last year, organizers Ingrid and Damien enjoyed a rich, exciting, and well-attended Machinima Roadshow event at Festival Arcadia in Montreal. So when the organizer invited us back, and expressed his desire to make the machinima component a bigger and more extensive part of his show, promoting it to us as a turn-key event and possibly including prize money for top films, Ingrid and Damien enlisted the help of Ricky and Phil and created the First Annual International Machinima Expo."
